The past year has been a powerful one for the trans movement. Laverne Cox graced the cover of Time Magazine, Caitlyn Jenner came out, and Janet Mock toured the country discussing her book. We also lost Lamia Beard, Yazmin Vash Payne, Penny Proud, Leelah Alcorn, and countless other trans lives forcibly taken from our community.
There is much to celebrate, much to mourn, and much to fight for.
At 2pm on June 13th, hundreds of trans and allied people will meet at the North Park Blocks to celebrate, grieve, and be in community. We are a beautiful, diverse, proud people, and we will march through the city to show that we stand together, united. We will end at Portland Pride Festival, where we've been invited to take the stage and share our voices with the Pride celebrants.
We need your help to do this. Your donation will help us provide an accesibility vehicle for the March, so anyone, with any type of body, can participate. We will have permits for our gathering at the Park Blocks, and a stage, where we will hear from our local trans heroes. ASL interpretation will be provided for the whole event.
We are asking you to take a moment now to think about the incredible trans people who have come before us.
Now imagine all of the incredible trans people YOU know. All in one place, marching together.
THAT is what we are creating this year.
