For the Love of Gary - Vet Bill Fund (Portchester)

Don protégé
Gary, our beloved cat of Portchester suffered an accident last week, the details of which are still unknown, we are just thankful someone found him and responded so quickly, taking him to Portchester Vets where he has received excellent care so far for his broken pelvis.

Gary regularly touches the hearts of the Portchester community, always just being there for a cuddle, a fuss and occasionally a bite! We love his social nature and his carefree attitude towards life – just choosing to curl up to sleep literally anywhere! He’s the true free spirit of Portchester, a real character and that’s why we all love him!

That love was shown when everyone rallied together and raised an amazing £600 to cover some of his vet bills. It was so kind and so generous and Clare was so overwhelmed with the support and it really was a great help as after multiple vet visits and treatments his bill is ever growing without insurance!

The latest update is sadly not as positive as hoped. Originally it seemed that the damage was limited to a broken pelvis and that crate rest and pain medication would be sufficient. Unfortunately, following further vet consultations it has been discovered that Gary has some nerve damage. This is currently limiting his quality of life as he cannot control his bowels as normal. You may have noticed all the puppy pads in the new photos on his facebook page.

He is battling on and still shows his spirit but life for him right now is not the same, he’s a little sad and of course we all think he misses his visits to the precinct and getting to watch the comings and goings of everyone.

Wanting Gary to have the best life possible Clare has opted for Gary to seek specialist referral in the New Forest. It was thought that surgery was required but this seems not to be possible, his kidneys are currently under strain and he has had to spend the weekend in the clinic which is why there are no new photos of him. He has had to have a catheter put in and his kidneys drained of blood. It is hoped best case scenario this blood is just the result of trauma and having his kidneys flushed through with water and more rest and meds this weekend will help them start to function as normal again but at the moment only time will tell! We all have our fingers crossed!

The vets have all commented on what a lovely cat he is!

Everyone has been so amazing and we really don’t expect anything further from you but if you do feel a special connection with Gary and want to help further donations can be made here, the page which will remain open for the next few weeks.
