Poppy the puppy's critically urgent treatment

**** 4th February Poppy update ****

Poppy made it home!! The staff at VetsNow provided amazing life saving supportive treatment to give Poppy the chance to fight off this terrible illness. She has surprised us all and pulled through. The task now is to feed, feed … and feed again to get this pups strength back!

Non of this would have been possible without the amazing support of friends, family and strangers who generously donated to the fund. This is something I feel humbled by, and will never forget.

Thank you to everyone that donated, shared supportive and kind comments, all of which provided me with much needed emotional support and the strength to battle through a difficult time.

My heartfelt thanks goes to the incredible Vets, Nurses and receptionists at VetsNow Glasgow that worked round the clock to care for and nurse Poppy back from the brink. Their humanity and kindness made the difficult times more bearable. They communicated excellently, taking the time to give regular updates and talking me through every procedure.

Poppy is currently fast asleep on the sofa enjoying endless cuddles. I will be keeping a very close eye as she still has some way to go.

Thanks, thanks and thanks again.

**** 31st January Poppy update ****

After a very tough weekend Poppy has made tentative steps in the right direction, she continues to be fed through a feeding tube, but today has started to eat food herself!  We originally hoped that she would be home today (Monday) unfortunately she still requires constant intensive care and a range of medication to limit her pain and keep her alive (her intestines are very fragile given the aggressiveness of the disease along with her being so young). The financial costs for her treatment is now expected to go up by an additional £4K totalling 12k. She is fighting hard and there is still hope if she can have a few days of additional treatment. If everyone could  continue to share the link to see if the perhaps others could contribute I would so appreciate it. Poppy is such a wonderful puppy and she deserves this final push.

I have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support so far and can not thank everyone enough.

****************************************

On Monday the 24th of January my 7 month old dog Poppy became unwell, by Wednesday afternoon her health took a drastic turn for the worse; with continual vomiting and bloody diarrhoea. Within an hour Poppy was in such a state she could hardly walk and was in terrible distress with the pain and vast amounts of blood she was losing.

I took Poppy to the emergency Veterinary Hospital VetsNow in Glasgow, where they immediately started aggressive treatment. The medical team confirmed she has Acute Hemorrhagic Diarrhoea Syndrome, but they needed to run a series of tests to rule out other possible diseases like Parvovirus. Overnight her heat-rate became unstable, raising concerns over the amount of pain she was experiencing in her abdomen. Poppy received an emergency Plasma transfusion in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Poppy is still in the Intensive Care Unit receiving round the clock monitoring, a cocktail of medication, opioids, regular scans and X-rays. Recently a feeding tube has been inserted to begin the feeding, which is essential to building her strength. Her heart-rate is slowly beginning to stabilise however she is still passing large amounts of bloody diarrhoea, continues to have painful spasms and is very nauseous.

Poppys health is still unstable and she continues to be critically ill, round the clock care is the only thing that can help and give her a chance to fight this very serious disease. As you can imagine this has come as a complete shock to everyone that knows and loves her, that a previously very healthy and fit young dog became so critically ill virtually overnight is almost unimaginable.

To insure she has a chance to make a recovery and come home there has been no other option than to continue the intensive care treatment, the vet bills are mounting to £8k.
I just do not have this money, so I have no other option than to ask for help from anyone that can spare even the smallest amount to help Poppy continue to receive the treatment she gravely needs to keep her alive.

Poppy loves life, is my ultimate companion and brings so much joy to everyone she meets. She needs all the help and support so we can get that tail wagging again!

Thank you for taking the time to read,
