Polly's Purpose

Donation protected
On December 16, 2017, two dogs, their mom, and grandpa were flying home for Christmas. Around 9pm that evening, the plane experienced engine failure and crashed. Tragically, everyone on board (her mom, grandpa, co-pilot, and dog-brother) was killed – except for Polly. Somehow, Polly made it out of the wreckage and ran to find help. She happened upon a nearby home, where she was given shelter and care until local law enforcement officers were able to transport her to the nearest emergency vet clinic. There, she was evaluated for severe burns over half of her body. Miraculously, she had no broken bones or internal bleeding.

We cannot say there was anything fortunate about that night. However, it just so happens that the nearest vet clinic where Polly was cared for (in our humble opinion) is home to the greatest veterinary staff in the world. Polly truly could not have received better care. Due to Polly’s extensive burns, she remained in their care for two long months. It would be clear to anyone hearing her story that Polly’s emotional injuries were equal to if not exceeded by her physical ones. As such, despite their extremely busy schedules, the vet staff made sure Polly was never alone. During the day, she was cared for at the clinic. Treating her burns required a substantial amount of procedures: debridement, laser therapy, tissue coverage, fluids, pain control, and antibiotics; not to mention the time spent helping her to regain her cheerful spirit with playing frisbee, fetch, and tug-of-war. At night, Polly went home with one of the vets and stayed with her and her family, even throughout the holidays. The vet even sent daily updates with photos and videos to Polly’s remaining grieving family. These updates were the only bright spot of each painfully passing day and kept them going.

We could not be more thankful to this group of veterinary professionals who took it upon themselves to care for Polly as if she were their own. Polly was physically and emotionally devastated, but being so loved by this vet staff, truly helped her heal. As if this staff couldn't be any more wonderful, when Polly was healthy enough to go home, the veterinarian personally drove Polly 10 hours to reunite her with her family. When Polly’s family asked how much they owed, the clinic benevolently refused to accept any money from them. According to our estimates, the medical care alone would cost thousands of dollars. We truly can never repay them for their kindness. They saved the only thing that this family has left. Our gratitude is immeasurable.

All the money raised here will go directly to this extraordinary practice and their staff to use as they wish.
