Dear Friends and Family,
From September 19th-20th, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria. This hurricane, along with Hurricane Irma just days before, impacted the island causing billions of dollars of damages along their routes. Gov. Ricardo Rosselló described Maria as the "worst hurricane in modern history in Puerto Rico," and noted its damage could prove to be "catastrophic." Over a week removed from this tragedy, his choice word of catastrophic holds true. 3.4 million have limited to no power on the island, and many families in Puerto Rico have lost everything.
In light of this incident, La Familia Delta Alumni Association has partnered with Nuestro Ideal Inc. in order to develop a plan that will support Puerto Rico. Nuestro Ideal is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission it is to contribute, promote and develop innovative ideas for the cultural, educational, and economic enrichment of the people of Latin America throughout the Western Hemisphere. Members of Nuestro Ideal pursue our mission through nonpartisan, nonpolitical and independent not-for-profit action.
With our assistance, Nuestro Ideal will send resources in the form of materials and human capital directly to local communities impacted by Hurricane Maria.. We are hopeful that our contribution will have a direct impact on the improvement of people’s lives on the island. Areas of Puerto Rico that are isolated and at-risk due to complications regarding flooding and the electrical grid will be given priority.
We are asking our friends and family to assist us with this movement via donation. We are hoping to reach and exceed our goal of $10,000.
