The Nazareth House

Nazareth House, based in Cape Town, is home to nearly 40 children with severe disabilities as well as 40 elderly people who need care and support. Most of the children are affected by cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome, or fetal alcohol syndrome.  A couple of them have a parent who occasionally visits, but most have been abandoned - some left on the street or in a hospital. The home is registered as a shelter with the South African Department of Social Development, but receives only minimal government funding per child that doesn't come close to adequately covering their expenses. They are heavily reliant on donors for everything from adult and child diapers to special beds to clothing and food.

The caregivers who work at this facility are amazing. While they face difficult circumstances each day, with heavy lifting and managing the health  and wellness needs of the children- they go about their work with smiles and love.

These are the most vulnerable of the vulnerable in our society and they need assistance. Please help us to raise money to support these children who have nowhere else to go, and to help make the jobs of their caregivers a bit easier. Many of you would like to find a cause that can really make a difference, and this is a very good one.

Note: While the organization is a registered charity and has tax benefits in South Africa, you may not be able to deduct from taxes in other countries. We have set up the site on a US platform to make it easier to collect donations. Absolutely all proceeds collected from this fundraiser will go to the charity, excluding any fees charged by the GoFundMe platform.
