Please help with Lunas urgent surgery

After an unexpected incident over the weekend, our poor Luna has been left unable to move and in extreme pain. At the time it wasn't clear what was happening and it was like she was having seizures and absences as well as being in pain and unable to move in between. It was so traumatic for her and us as we felt helpless and even now, the thought of these incidents breaks my heart, and i am trying my all to get her better and get her home.

After seeing a number of specialists she is now in a specialist neurological unit and is awaiting surgery to save her. She was sadly diagnosed with a birth defect in her spine that has led to her being in a lot of pain these last few days and unable to walk. The spinal condition means that her vertebrae can move and push on to her spinal cord causing pain and in this case, swelling, bruising and a blead that has temporarily stopped her walking as it wont go back in to place and remains in a dislocated state.

 

After having undergone much specialist testing due to her presentation not being like anything they have seen before, we have managed to discover the cause and fortunately there is a permanent fix that can be done that will enable her to lead an ordinary and full life pain free (although could be a little wobbly from time to time but that's ok).

 

We have spent thousands to date trying to get to the bottom of what's going on and continue to do so to help with her recover, and have far exceeded the insurance money we had as well as what funds we have access to, but the next step is urgent surgery as her neck remains in a dislocated state and once the swelling goes down, this can be completed to rectify the issue and will mean that she can go on to live a normal doggy life.

 

As the surgery is niche and in her neck which is tiny, it will cost between £8000-£10000 and then rehab following. She is still only a baby and only celebrated her first birthday in December and I cant face not giving her the opportunity to live a full and happy life when that is possible for her and despite the hefty price tag, feel she deserves a chance at living it.

 

Luna is the best dog in the world and adores her family as we adore her. We are broken without her and the thought of her not being able to enjoy where she lives or live her life, breaks my heart. We live by the beach in the country and want her to be able to make more memories of happy times in the beautiful part of the county in which she lives.

 

Due to her soft and compassionate nature, we had always planned for her to support children with disabilities in the future as this sort of therapy can be priceless for them, and still hope that this can be a very real possibility for her.

 

I am a mental health nurse and my husband has just gone self employed following a rocky time through COVID, and my wage is our main source of income until he is able to get regular work. We have two wonderful children who are 12 and 7 who are so deeply upset as are we, and just want their best friend home. My eldest has really suffered with his mental health but having Luna has been such a game changer for him and he was making such progress with her there.

 

I hate having to ask but if it will help her then I'm willing to try anything. This isn't her fault and i just want her to have the best possible chance so if you have a spare £, please do think of Luna. We miss her so much and with her being so far away and COVID, we cant even visit her.
