Waffle has been shot

Waffle is my neighbour's dog. He is two years old, a beloved family pet and furry friend to my neighbour's two young boys.
A few days ago he was let out into his garden for his early morning wee. In his excitement at smelling a rabbit he got out of the garden and went into the apple orchards that stretch beyond. His distraught owner went looking for him and after 20 minutes searching she found him nearly back at the edge of the garden.
His face was covered in blood and there were a large number of what looked like puncture wounds all over his head. It looked like he may have been attacked by either a badger or a fox, both of which can do a lot of damage if cornered or defending cubs.
Waffle's mum took him to the vets straight away, where he was given pain relief while the vets worked out what injuries he had sustained. The most obvious and pressing injury was to his left eye, which had been punctured - "turned inside out" as his mum described it to me - and it could not be saved. Waffle has lost an eye.
When the vets X-rayed Waffle they found a most disturbing explanation for his injuries.
Waffle had been shot.

Any money donated will be used to help pay Waffle's vet bills as he is, unfortunately, not insured. His mum has asked me to thank everyone who takes the time to read this appeal and donate as any help is hugely appreciated and in her own words she's "just grateful he's still with us."
