Please help Tom fight lung cancer

We started this fundraiser to help support Tom Verburg and his family as Tom battles Stage 4 Lung cancer.

 

Tom was diagnosed with Stage 4 non small cell lung cancer that had spread to his brain and spine in August of 2021. We are still in disbelief of the prognosis Tom has been given, considering Tom is young and has never smoked a day before in his life.

 

In August, Tom went to the Emergency room for back pain. After several tests it was determined that he had a tumor on his spine. At that point Tom underwent an emergency back surgery to remove some of the cancer tumor and prevent him from being paralyzed. Because of the tumors in the spine Tom struggles to walk without a walker or wheelchair.

 

In September, Tom started daily targeted therapy pills that he will have to take the rest of his life. These pills target the cancer cells in his body and will hopefully shrink them. During September, he underwent radiation therapy to his spine. The hope is that it will also shrink the tumors in his spine. During this time, Tom has had several lengthy hospital stays along with numerous doctors’ appointments and testing.

 

Tom loves his family very much. His wife Lisa and young daughter Emma are the center of his world. This diagnosis has been devastating to the family.
