Dad (Peter O Neill) was flying to Miami on Friday 3rd May with our Mom (Cathie) to celebrate Dad's 80th birthday and their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Dad suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on the plane and was taken directly by ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital. He developed pneumonia and pulmonary edema while in the hospital. He is now stable but has no movement on his left side.  We need to get him home as soon as possible so that he can start his rehabilitation. Unfortunately the insurance company that had provided a policy for Dad has declined his claim and will not cover any of his costs. This means that Dad is liable for all medical and travel costs.
In order to reduce the risk of Dad having a second hemorrhagic stroke on the flight home, the neurologist has temporarily taken him off other necessary medication. The only way to reduce the risks that he now faces, is to get him back to Ireland and back on this necessary medication. Dad will need medical assistance throughout the flight home, which means we have to arrange for a medical practitioner to fly to Miami and escort him home on the plane with all necessary medical equipment.
It is our priority to get Dad home safely and we appreciate any support that can be offered as we face this challenging situation.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Dad and all of us as a family. The kindness, generosity, prayers and love that have been extended to us from all over the country and indeed all over the world has been overwhelming. We cannot express our appreciation or gratitude enough and would like to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts. Dad is now in St Finbarr's Hospital in Cork and is undergoing extensive rehabilitation. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him but being able to do it in Cork surrounded by family and friends will make a big difference in his recovery rate. Thank you all for helping to make this happen.

Dad arrived home safe and sound yesterday after a long but thankfully uneventful journey. He is now in CUH where he is being looked after by a fantastic team of nurses and doctors. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him but we are so grateful that he will be doing it in Cork where he belongs. Thank you everyone for your support, prayers and best wishes.

Dad's journey home has been delayed for a couple of days. He will now be escorted home by two nurses and all the medical equipment necessary to keep him safe. As the nurses have to travel to Miami to collect him , it will be Sunday evening before we will have Dad on a flight home. We are incredibly grateful for everyone's kindness and generosity and we ask everyone to please keep Dad in their prayers for just a little bit longer
