Artie Schuff's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Artie and Pat Schuff have created a wonderful life. They are childhood sweethearts, meeting when they were both just 12. They have been married for almost 48 years. They raised three amazing children and have been blessed with seven grandchildren.
After a 40 year career as an electrician with Local 3 IBEW, Artie retired on July 31, 2020, just a few months shy of his 70th birthday. Artie was excited to do all the things he wasn't able to do when he was working. He had plans to work in his garden, go fishing with his sons and buddies, and travel with his love Pat; he was going to attend his grandchildren’s dance and gymnastic performances and spend more time with them.
Sadly, that would not be the case. On September 13, 2020, just 44 days after Artie retired he was diagnosed with three Aortic Aneurysms. He was airlifted from New Milford Hospital to Yale New Haven for the first of three open heart surgeries.
As a result of these surgeries Artie has suffered four strokes. As you can imagine, the last six months have been very difficult for the Schuff family—complicated by a pandemic, separating Artie from his family during the time he needed them most.
Artie had his last open heart surgery in December. It has been a rough road, but Artie is strong and determined to get back home to his sweetheart Pat and his supportive family. The great news is Artie is in a rehabilitation center and getting stronger each day. Unfortunately, Artie's secondary insurance will not pay the 20% coinsurance (approx. $200 a day) Medicare does not cover as well as various other charges necessary for Artie's recovery. The bills have been piling up. Everything Artie and Pat have worked for is dwindling away. Pat has been managing so much these past six plus months and finances shouldn't have to be at the forefront.
Artie’s battle so far has proved his strength and resolve to get back to his life. Always the first to give a helping hand, the life he’s lived has been a testament to his kind heart. Please consider making a donation to help the Schuffs pay these bills, so they can focus on Artie's recovery and enjoy his well-deserved retirement.
