Please help the Desbien boys

Donation protected
The Desbiens boys, Serge-18, Kye-17 and Rein-17 are three young men who have overcome adversity and made sacrifices with the love and support of their father who lived his life for his boys. Unfortunately, they have suddenly and unexpectedly, lost their father who was their sole provider. Mr. Desbiens was unable to work and although he could not give them many material things, he provided a stable and loving home for them.

Mr. Desbiens spent many hours taking the three boys to all of their sporting and school events. He often had to wait outside during practices since he could not afford the gas to continue going back and forth in a truck that only held three passengers at a time so they alternated who would wait for their father to come back for them from the south side of Amsterdam.  Although their story sounds hard and sad, no one ever heard them complain about their situation. Their love for their father, and his for them, is what kept them focused on their goals.

Everyone in our community who has had contact with these boys say that they are the most polite, unassuming, studious, intelligent, young men they know. Although they have had a difficult life, they were always good natured and happy.  If people knew about their hardships, it was not because they ever talked or complained about them.

What truly makes this story tragic is that all three boys have worked extremely hard in school and deserve to attend a college that fulfills their dreams. They have worked tirelessly to do their best academically and in sports. They are talented dedicated athletes who are also active members in several other clubs.  They have also worked and given up free time to help support each other. What truly sets them apart from the hard lives many of our teens endure, is that all three boys are at the top of their class. Serge is the Valedictorian while Kye is currently fifth and Rein is second in their junior class. All three boys planned on attending RPI for engineering and certainly deserve this opportunity. Unfortunately, there is no money available from any other sources other than the scholarships Serge has been awarded (Kye and Rein will potentially receive) and the spending money they have earned from working. Any donation is truly appreciated. This money will be used solely for anything related their college costs which are needed now for Serge and next year for Kye and Rein.

Quote from Serge’s college essay: “My goal in college is to earn a higher education that will open up a path to a successful career in science and allow me to repay my family for everything they have done for my brothers and me, especially my dad. It might be impossible to repay my father for dedicating his life to us, but I’m definitely going to try.”
