There are moments in life where we need to support each other a little bit more than normal.
Dear Friends and Family,
It is with a heavy heart that we bring this news. On Tuesday, March 9th 2021 36 year old Matthew Tanner was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital. The next day we received the most devastating call of our lives. Matt had suffered a massive brain stem stroke resulting in severe brain damage.
Matt went into a coma and woke up a few days later. Immediately doctors discovered that Matt had locked-in syndrome. A condition in which a patient is aware but cannot move or communicate verbally due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body except for vertical eye movements and blinking. Matt is currently still in the ICU fighting for his life. Once Matt is in stable condition, he will undergo intensive rehabilitation at Victoria General Hospital over the course of the next year.
We ask that you find it in your heart to help support Matt, his Fiancée Shannon and their 8 month old infant son Owen through this difficult time. There is no need in explaining that the next year will be challenging. Through recovery and intensive rehabilitation, Matt is going to need support from his family, friends, and community; he is going to need support not just today and tomorrow but for the months coming as well. At this time though, what recovery looks like is questionable. This page has been started to help reduce the various costs that may be associated with his recovery such as adjusting and modifying to life's day-to-day activities. Shannon and Owen will also need to relocate to be closer to Matt. Many lifestyle changes will be required in the road to recovery for their young family today and for years to come.
We are unsure what the outcome of this will be. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, please join with us to ease any financial burden on this family.
