Please Help Sophia Get The Surgery She Needs

Hey there ‍♀️

As most of you may already be aware, life has not been so kind to me as of late.

My name is Sophia Rashell Sammut, I am 31 years old and this is my life.

On the 11th June 2020 I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis...the final stage of an awful disease that affects 1 in 10 women globally. This disease has no cure and the cause is still yet to be researched the way it should be.

This disease has fused my bowel and my kidneys to my womb and I have eight 6cm endometrioma tumors covering both my ovaries. Every month I go through the same pain if not worse as childbirth for each day of my cycle. Blood gathers in my stomach with nowhere to go, I am basically internally bleeding.

Since the age of 18 I have suffered 12 miscarriages, been hospitalized every other month and all without a diagnosis. I have been misdiagnosed with PID, IBS, UTD, kidney stones, constipation, severe trapped gas and most commonly “painful periods”.

I have lost jobs over the years because of this misdiagnosed disease and I have now lost my ability to work and also when at its worst unable to do the most normal of activities such as making a cup of tea or even standing or walking.

Due to the fact that I have been diagnosed so late in the disease and late in age, with the current COVID 19 pandemic the NHS have refused to carry out elective surgery for the time being. The waiting list is over a year and I cannot even be considered due to the government not allowing the list to be opened at this moment in time.

My only option is to have private surgery under Spire Healthcare which has been quoted at approximately £4,250.00. As you can imagine with not being able to work and being in lockdown due to COVID 19 there is no way I am able to afford this much needed life changing surgery.

The severity of this disease is so complex that in time I will need a further surgery which I am hoping I will then be able to have done via the NHS.

If you know me you would know that I am a VERY proud person, I am always laughing, dancing and making others smile. Reaching out for help means a great deal to me and took every part of me to be able to write this.

This disease has taken my smile, my happiness, my ability to enjoy simple things in life like socializing with my family and friends and doing the things that I love.

This surgery will not only save my life, my quality of life and any possible chance of me having a family in the future...but it will allow me to become the person I was before this debilitating decease took complete control over my body.

The NHS and my doctors have failed me for over 12 years and not carried out basic human duty of care. This disease could have been caught a lot sooner and with much better dedication before it got too late and spread so far. A donation of any amount would be so very much welcome and appreciated

I am here to share my story and hopefully help spread awareness of this absolutely life shattering disease

Thank you for taking the time to read my story ❤️ Thank you in advance to everybody that has helped me reach my goal of surgery so far
