Please help save our beautiful Koda

PLEASE HELP SAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL FRENCHIE
This is our beautiful French Bulldog, Koda, he is just 2 years old.
He was named after the bear cub in Disney’s Brother Bear because our little boy Cassidy, who was just 6 at the time, immediately fell in love with the new puppy and did everything with Koda as did Kenai in the film, he told us that Koda was his very own little bear cub.
We now have another baby in the family, little Frankie who has just turned 1 years old, he and Koda are absolutely the best of friends and Koda has protected him since the day he arrived despite Frankie constantly teasing him and trying to eat his food!
On May 21st 2018, Koda was out on a walk as usual when he was startled by a pair of large Irish Setters, Koda leapt backwards and let out an almighty yelp in pain. Confident that he hadn’t been attacked by the Setters, we took him home. Although he seemed to be in shock, the rest of the day went by with no obvious signs of anything wrong with Koda until later in the evening when he appeared to be struggling to walk on one of his rear legs. We thoroughly examined him and with no obvious injuries, assumed that he had twisted his leg and put him to bed.
6am on 22nd May, having been woken by our cheeky little Frankie, I found Koda in the kitchen sitting oddly and clearly distressed. When I tried to encourage him to come to me it was obvious that he couldn’t stand and when I tried to help him, his rear legs were completely paralysed and ‘floppy’. In a fit of complete panic, we immediately took him to the vets and called the out of hours number, by the time the vet had arrived, Koda had become even more distressed and his breathing was so uncontrollable that it had become life threatening to him and the vet immediately sedated him for his own safety.
We instructed the vets to carry out any investigations necessary to determine the cause of Koda’s paralysis and following an X Ray the vet confirmed that Koda had damaged part of his spine and the pressure on his spinal cord had caused him to lose all functionality to his rear end. The vet advised that with Koda at risk of becoming distressed again and with the spinal issues, our best option was euthanasia.
We were distraught and our son was hysterical when he found out that Koda had to go to doggy heaven. Determined not to give up, I called Diana Lewis at the NDAA (North Devon Animal Ambulance) and begged for help; NDAA are a fantastic local charity who save thousands of animals each year. Diana asked us to collect Koda from the vets immediately and take him over where she had arranged for another vet to give a second opinion. Following the examination, the vet insisted that Koda was not put to sleep and that, with the correct specialist surgery, there is in excess of 90% chance that Koda will make a full recovery and we could enjoy his company for many more years.
Whilst the news that Koda is likely to make a full recovery is fantastic, admission and specialist surgery comes at a price. We have been advised that this could be up to £5,000 and having recently (just 3 weeks ago) moved to a house with a garden for Koda and the children to enjoy, we just do not have the funds at this time to save him. NDAA are completely on our side and have pledged to do all they can but again, being a small local charity, they have just a few hundred to offer towards the operation, nothing like the £5,000 needed.
With no other option, I have set up this page hopeful that just some of you can help for us to raise as much towards the target as possible. We don’t have much time in which to make a decision to save him or to let him go. If he was an old dog we would perhaps seriously consider euthanasia but he is still a baby, he is just 2 years old and so kind, so friendly and full of life. He is part of our family and our kids’ best friend in the whole world and all of us would be absolutely devastated if he were no longer with us.
So please, whatever you can spare, help us to save Koda. Thank you so much in advance and I promise that, around the clock we will be doing all we can to find the money and the best veterinary surgeon for him xxx

Update: we had Koda insured from when he was a pup and following a digestion problem early on in his life, we were told by our vets that our insurers were not on their approved list and we would have to seek an alternative. With our inexperience and on the poor advice of the vet, we cancelled our insurance but with the digestion issues we have been unsuccessful in finding a new insurer hence the reason for having to self fund.
