Please HELP Rick Cook Recover

Our family has created this page to help my brother Rick's recovery after a devastating life altering illness. Your generous donations will be used for Rick's prosthetics, rehabilitation, physical therapy, psychological support and all obstacles he will face in his daily life after amputation.
Rick is not just a brother he is a son, a cousin, a nephew, a father, a husband and a friend. He was born and raised in New York, living in Long Beach and then graduating Centereach High School. He now lives in the Port Orange area. He loves to play golf and softball. He is a die hard New York Mets and Dallas Cowboys fan. He is diabetic and after being on dialysis 3 times a week, he finally got the call that we've been waiting for. A kidney transplant. After his surgery in May 2020, his immune system was low and subject to infections. We knew he would have to be careful. Not long after the transplant, he got an infection in his foot, which led him to be hospitalized and the loss of a toe. Before he could even overcome from that procedure, it happened again. On Sept. 15th, Rick called me and said I NEED HELP! I raced over to his house to find him almost unconscious.. I called 911 and they took him back to the hospital. He had another infection. This one was life threatening!  He was in septic shock. The infection had taken over his entire body. He immediately was admitted to the ICU. We received a call in the middle of the night, saying that he might not make it. His blood pressure was dropping and would need to be put on a ventilator. All we could do is wait and pray.  The infection on his foot got worse. Tragically, we had to make the life altering decision to amputate, from below the knee down.  All of this was happening, while he was still unconscious. He did not know what was happening and we still had to wait to make sure he was going to survive. After a week, and through the grace of God, he was taken off the ventilator. Telling Rick about his amputation was so painfully difficult... As he grew stronger, he was moved into an in- patient rehabilitation center, where he is now. He has been in the hospital for 3 weeks and is on the long, hard and painful road to recovery. Thank you so much for your generosity in our family's time of need. Please donate whatever you can. It can make a difference. God bless you all.
