Please help Nicole beat Breast Cancer...Round 2

Donation protected
Daughter, sister, aunt, partner, friend, loved one - Nikki found a new lump...the cancer is back.

First diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in the summer of 2018, Nikki fought through a year of hell with the support of her family, friends and partner Brad and was able to win her battle in October of 2019. Sadly, celebrations have been cut short as we’ve recently found out there has been a new tumor growing in her opposite breast, and she will have to relive this nightmare all over again.

After working for many years in London, Ontario as a Paediatric Oncology and Medicine nurse, she never considered that she would be on the opposite end of cancer treatment. Her patients were the ones feeling the pains of cancer and cancer treatments, and she was the one supporting them and trying to make their experience as positive as possible. Now she’s back on the other end of that treatment, and is in need of our help.

Chemotherapy can be very damaging to the body and internal organs and after going through treatment once, she will now be taking that risk again to save her life, accepting the reality that she may never have a ‘normal’ life or be able to have children of her own.

 How will your contributions help?

Treatment:  Double (bilateral) mastectomy at the end of February 2020. This means all her breast tissue will be removed. She needs supplies for post surgery and recovery; special tops and bags that will hold her drainage tubes/bags, medical supplies, and a special body pillow to support her in bed.
Parking:  Parking costs $14 a day at the London Regional Cancer Clinic, which will add up quickly with months of aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
Medications:  Pharmacological and holistic medication and supportive therapies to help with nausea, pain, as well as to protect her ovaries from the harsh chemotherapy (paid for out of pocket).
Recovery:  Physically, mentally and emotionally. Yoga for mental health and strength, massage for circulation and draining lymph nodes. Meditation for relaxation and mental health.
International research:  Due to the aggressive, rare nature and quick reoccurrence of the same breast cancer, Nikki (and/or her cancer specimen) may have the opportunity to consult or see other specialists internationally. We want to make sure this is an option for her and that she can afford to travel for specialist appointments or pay for special tests our Provincial health care does not pay for, if necessary to ensure her survival.
Daily Living: Not being able to work during her treatment, she will need help with her phone bill, groceries, mortgage, car insurance, and gas money among other expenses. If we can take this everyday stress off her shoulders, she will have more time and energy to focus on recovery and healing.
If you’re able to help with a monetary contribution of any size, we will greatly appreciate it. Small donations add up and anything can help in her time of need.

A message from Nikki:

“I am living a nightmare. I can’t believe this is happening again. I did catch this early; the hope is we will stop it again before it gets a chance to spread throughout my body. I’m scared.  Breast cancer can spread to the brain, lungs, liver and bones and when it gets advanced it sometimes is no longer curable. It was suggested I reach out to our support group of family and friends. I have not previously asked for help, but I know that I need it now, this burden is too much for us. Brad and I can no longer survive this on our own and it has shattered our hearts.

We have had to start prioritizing what is necessary and what I can live without. If people want to help and if they feel that they don’t know how, here’s how; Instead of buying flowers, using that money to help me maintain some financial independence until I can work again would be greatly appreciated. That money could add up and I could use that money towards continuing aiding in my recovery emotionally and physically. This may seem small, but this allows me happiness and strength in this darkness. I cannot even express the extent of emotional pain and fear this has caused, not only to myself but to all those in my life.

At a time in my life, turning 33 this month, I’m supposed to be in my prime. I have been struck down and my spirit broken. I had all these future goals for my life as we all do, but I have no control over this. I have to just endure it and survive it and hope that eventually my life can move forward again. I want to genuinely express that if there is any money left over, it would be used towards helping another person going through this.”

Nikki’s love for life and compassionate heart are contagious. From all of us who love Nikki with our entire hearts, we thank you for your love and any support you can provide as Nikki moves into the biggest, scariest time of her life.

Thank-you, thank-you, thank you.

XOXO
