Please help my son with ASD get an companion dog

My beautiful son has ASD and this has lead him to have a very difficult time communicating with people, often causing him to be in trouble or misunderstood. Therapists, Drs, teachers and school staff have been suggesting getting him a dog for a while but being single that’s not so easy, the dog suggested is $2000 ( a rescue Dog isn’t suitable I’ve already tried that avenue) and a ‘smart pup’ involves raising 20,000 before even looking at you... I don’t even feel right asking for help but I just want to help my son to not feel lonely anymore... he bonds with animals unlike he has most humans. I thought a bird would help but he says he wants something to cuddle and be his best friend.... I have been saving towards it also, plus vaccinations pet insurance etc... any help would be so very appreciated. I’m not sure what else to write but to anyone that may happen to help out  I can’t thank you enough....
