Please help me save my mother!

My Mother Monseratt del Refugio Rascon Cuestas, was born 07/04/1959.  She's been a hemo dialysis patient going on 30 years come this Sept 2017, since I was 7 yrs old.  Hence, she acquired Lupus and Arthritis for many years, her Kidneys were removed well over 15 yrs ago.

Up to date, within the last 90 days she took a bad fall, she suffered sub cranial hematoma, Surgery was performed on her head and everything went well with surgery and about two months later surgery was performed on her back due to the fall.  It had created a kink on a nerve in her upper back/spine area, causing numbness in her legs and arms.  The surgery outlook was great, however, the medication caused blockage in the large intestine, causing it to be removed several weeks after on July 5th last month.  She was unable to use the restroom, this was a big indicator to the dialysis personnel to take her to the emergency room.  This is where she has stayed, along with me to date in a bad health condition fighting to stay alive.

The doctors tell me there was uncontrollable bleeding.  They explained to me they did not have a clue as to why they were unable to stop it.  At that point and time, they recommended that I get here to The University of Utah hospital to the ICU dept. ASAP, to make an important decision, to remove her off of life support.  I am her only son.  This is why it is so difficult for me to just give up on her.  I made the decision to remove her breathing support.  I needed to see if she would fight.  I needed to know from her.  It isn’t something I can do on my own.  My Mother became conscious after the breathing support was removed.  Just moments before this the Catholic Priest had read her rights, we prayed and cried and Doctors and staff thought that she would pass on and did not think that she would survive.

Miraculously, she was able to speak and acknowledge where and who she was.  The medical staff asked if she would like to continue to fight to live or if she wanted to rest and go be with God.  She chose to live.  My eyes teared up.  24 hours later they performed surgery removed the sponges that were in place to create a blood clot to stop the bleeding.  At that point, they discovered that her spleen was causing the bleeding.  It was removed.  They added the catheter tube and bag, removed sponges etc. and closed up her stomach, to make sure infection was not going to be a factor.  The staff had little to no hope that she would survive the surgery.

In 1988, she was in ICU at the main hospital in Idaho falls, Idaho, due to pneumonia, in which she flat lined for over 10 minutes and miraculously began breathing on her own after doctors and nurses had used a defibulator to revive her and she came back to life after almost giving up. So, I will never count her out until she's ready to go home and be with God on her own terms.  This time around since Friday July 21, 2017, she requested DNR, do not resuscitate her here at Promise hospital of Salt Lake.

Keep in mind the Doctor's had aggressively recommended to us (my family) to remove her from life support before 07/13/2017 and they wanted this to happen on this date for some reason.

Fast forward to July 25th, she survived the 3rd surgery that had been performed within the last month, she was in ICU since her birthday on the 4th of July until July 17, 2017 and then she was moved to the regular hospital, the 4th floor on the same building.

The hospital recommended to transfer her to Promise hospital of Salt Lake, for long term physical therapy, which is where she's been since this last Friday July 21st.  I spoke with a nurse from the dialysis treatment center she called my mom's apt to locate me and asked where they had taken her and She indicated, she felt that she was moved from the University of Utah too soon, for physical therapy treatment and I agreed.

I'm sorry about the long explanation.

This has been really tough to see mom suffer so much, I love her dearly and she means the world to me and to deal with seeing the one whom gave me birth and has loved me all my life with all her heart. to see her suffer for all these years.  I am trying to figure out what is the reason for all her suffering.  Why God has put her through all of this.

I don’t know what to do, and my heart weighs heavy, as I have left my job and everything I knew behind in Oklahoma.  My past, present, and my future is because of my mom.  I need help.  Everyone wants to give up on her, but against all odds she fights and pulls through.  I ask for your help and prayers to give me strength in helping us get through this.  Bills are piling up, I have been at her side for over a month now in a roller coaster of emotions through progression, then regression.  Anything you can help with would be a blessing.  Thank you!  And God bless you!
