On behalf of our beloved Ma. Belinda Toribio Orden, known to all of us as MABEL, her husband Amado “BOYET” Orden, her family and friends are reaching out with hopeful hearts, to all of you who have the means, to assist her in meeting the financial obligations that will be incurred during her tentatively scheduled surgery on September 23, 2020.
In late July 2020, Mabel began to experience fatigue. She found it a struggle to keep up with daily household chores which include the care and feeding of two family pet dogs and a number of neighborhood stray cats who have come to depend on her. It was also during this time that she started to experience pain on her lower abdomen.
Mabel has been diabetic and has been chronically anemic for the the past 21 years. She watches what she eats and is conscientious in maintaining her sugar levels. Therefore, she attributed her symptoms to an iron deficiency and began to take supplements.
Unfortunately, the symptoms persisted, her energy level further declined making even self care tasks a struggle. She also lost weight drastically.
On September 17, 2020, despite reservations about the Coronavirus, she was admitted at Notre Dame de Chartres Hospital in Baguio City. During the three days she was hospitalized, she underwent an emergency blood transfusion because her blood test revealed a hemoglobin level of 8.5 g/dl (12.0 to 15.5 g/dl is the normal range for adult women.) The doctors, to rule out internal bleeding, also ordered an endoscopy, colonoscopy and a CT scan.
The findings of the procedures indicate a "5-10 cm. colonic mass, ascending colon, partially obstructing, probably malignant." She has also been diagnosed with acute gastritis.
The surgery that has been scheduled this coming week is to resect and perform a biopsy on the mass since it is increasing in size and causing continued loss of red blood cells. The situation is urgent and any delay will cause more harm.
Your generous contribution will go towards covering the cost of surgery, hospitalization and doctors' professional fees. Mabel’s initial hospitalization has significantly depleted the family's finances and government insurance does not cover all expenses. The funds will also be used towards her recovery, which will take a few months.
