Please help Kuva rebuild in Uptown Minneapolis

We created this fundraiser in hopes that Kuva Salon can continue to employ our incredible staff, serve our amazing clients, and recover as a thriving business in Uptown. Four years ago, we opened Kuva in what we considered a dream location, in the heart of Uptown Minneapolis. Just 8 months after we opened, Covid and the Minneapolis riots occurred. The damage was less than a block from our location. These two events caused our successful business that was already profiting, to lose seven independent stylists. Most of them moved to another salon outside of Minneapolis. Kuva's main revenue is renting space to stylists so they can run their own independent business.

Several salons within blocks of us have closed, we don’t want to be the next.

Within this last year, our two Covid loans have run out and we have not been able to add new stylists. We have seen evidence of Uptown rebounding through new business, more traffic and less crime. Within 12 months we are confident that Kuva will be back on its feet and profitable.

We are humbly asking for the money that it will take to pay off debt to our landlord, and to assist with rent going forward as we rebuild our staff. 100% of the funds will go directly to the business. We do not qualify for any government assistance that we may deserve because of our close proximity to the riots.

For those that would like the back story:

Kuva Uptown Salon and Gifts was the dream of Will, Tami and Stephan. The three of us owned Wave Salon- a successful Uptown business for 17 years. We were looking at rebranding to make a new fresh business. Our landlord was building a new apartment building with retail space available on the Hennepin Avenue street level.

At the time, this was prime commercial real estate. They offered us the opportunity to move our salon to this location. This was exciting and almost fool proof as all of our stylists would be joining us. We took all our resources and created Kuva. This salon was to be the best place anyone in the salon industry would want to work. Kuva is the most beautiful and comfortable salon in Minneapolis. We created a place where each individual stylist could have their own independent business with the full support of the owners and manager (Dean!). Eight months after we opened, everything changed.
