In June 2019, beloved Eastern Sierra local, Jim Lambert got the news we all dread to hear... a biopsy in his neck showed a serious malignancy. Jim's life was thrown into a tailspin as he immediately underwent an extensive 13-hour surgery involving tumor removal, facial nerve dissection, artery reconstruction, and a platinum eye weight. His wife, Lina Myers Lambert, has been at his side every step of the way.
The diagnosis was acinic cell carcinoma, a rare form of salivary gland cancer, that would have shaken anyone to the core. But not Jim. True to his character of determination and zeal, he took this bull by the horns, and instantly embarked on a journey of healing and recovery. Not only is Jim a musical wizard, he is also a master at fixing things, with a knack for problem-solving. So it was natural that he would face this serious cancer diagnosis with his typical and resourceful Mr. Fix-it attitude. In the beginning, he had absolute confidence that he could "fix" this and fix it fast.

Jim attacked the diagnosis with an unwavering trust in his medical teams, continuous earnest research, and sincere prayer. He did everything that the oncologists advised him to do, some things with reservation and anxiety, others with passion and confidence. Besides the extensive surgery, he also endured 8 difficult weeks of targeted radiation, 6 rounds of double-agent chemotherapy, clinical trials, speech & physical therapy, plus months of immunotherapy. He incorporated functional medicine, nutrition and exercise to his daily regimen. He battled this disease with intensity, strength, bravery and courage and has been quite the inspiration. Although he has been gut-punched and knocked down several times, he has maintained an incredibly positive attitude.
Jim is a man of faith, and has experienced miracles and answered prayers all along the way. However, in spite of Jim's diligence with protocol, and strictly adhering to recommended treatments, the cancer has advanced and has now metastasized to his lymph and bones. There is ongoing progression of disease, and disturbing new symptoms that he is having to conquer weekly. Jim's top-notch medical teams have outlined an updated radiation and chemotherapy treatment plan that requires ongoing travel and aggressive options. In addition, Jim is incorporating adjunct treatments to boost his immunities, reduce inflammation, and to encourage spontaneous remission.
As you can imagine, Jim's treatment requires significant travel, financial drain and much-needed down time for recovery. He has been unable to work for months. His wife, Lina, is his biggest cheerleader and advocate. She juggles her time between caregiving for Jim, and working part-time in the field of real estate. Her income is not consistent enough to maintain their household and keep up with all of the additional expenses. There are extensive out-of-pocket medical costs, medications, supplements, and out-of-town lodging for long-distance appointments. While Jim has good health Insurance, there are expensive co-pays and constant denials of coverage. The adjunct treatment options that have undeniably helped Jim are simply not covered.
