Please help Jenni Ashanta through brain surgery!

A note from Jenni Ashanta:

Hi everyone. I want to share some news with you.

I was feeling some coldness in my right arm and the top of my right leg. A client who is a nurse noticed me rubbing my hand and asked about it; she then said I should go to the doctor immediately. That doctor sent me to the ER, and through a series of tests, they found that I have a sizeable brain tumor.

The neurosurgeons don’t think it’s cancer, but my first reaction was, “Get that thing out of my head!”  I’m having brain surgery on April 2 at Marin General. The tumor is called a meningioma—a slow-growing tumor that lives outside the meninges (the membrane that protects and houses the brain) and generally responds very well to being surgically removed. My prognosis is very good, thankfully, but they think I will be out of work and recovering for the 6 weeks following my surgery.

I’m sure I’ll pull through this challenge with a heroic(ish) story to tell, but there’s always a chance that I won’t. This whole situation is certainly making me think about what’s important in my life. My first concerns are for Amanda and Izzi*, of course. If you know them, please share your love and support with them. They are strong but scared. I am grateful to feel the love of you—my friends and family. I love my work with my clients, and I’ve missed dance and yoga this year. Sharing this life together makes me strong. I love and relish my life.

As I’m “getting my affairs” in order, my friend Annie is handling this GoFundMe campaign, which is for surgical expenses and a month of lost wages (I'm self-employed).

Below you will find 2 links for the support I’ll need in addition to financial support: food support and heart support.

1.) Food Support: Mealtrain (hosted/managed by my friend Andy Peri) for post-surgery shopping and meals.

2.) Heart Support: CaringBridge (hosted/managed by my boyfriend Michael Cavanaugh) for info about how I’m doing/feeling, prayer and healing circles, when I’m out of the ICU, when I’m back home, possibilities for visiting, notes from all of you, etc.

Thank you so much for your prayers, your good wishes, and our longtime friendship. I love you so much and you all mean the world to me.

For those of you reading this who I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet, please know that I am so grateful to you, as well.
*I'm a single mom and my amazing daughters are 15 and 19.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart,

Jenni Ashanta
