Please help fund cancer treatment for Paris!

Who am I?
Hi, I’m Michael and I’ve created my first GoFundme page for my dear friend and former colleague, Hamid, his wife Paris, and their twin baby boys Liam and Leo. I’ve been close to Hamid and his story for the past three years since working together in 2019, and have asked him on several occasions if I could please create a fundraiser page for him. He had rejected me at least three times until now, and I’m so glad he’s finally agreed to accept support from the community. Please read their story, and please consider donating to an extremely worthy cause and help this incredible young family stay together.

Hamid and Paris - Their Story
Paris and Hamid fell in love 10 years ago in London and had been living happily together until the summer of 2019 when Hamid was diagnosed at the age of 39 with Parkinson's disease while his wife Paris was pregnant with their first child. Little did they know that later on that same day they’d also learn that their baby girl's heart had stopped beating inside the womb, and at 32 weeks pregnant, Paris would give birth to their stillborn daughter.

They desperately wanted to have children, and several months later their prayers were answered when Paris fell pregnant again with a baby boy. Sadly lightning struck twice and their happiness didn’t last long as they lost their second baby that summer of 2020 at just 20 weeks.

Twins!
Then in July 2021, their prayers were answered and they were finally blessed with twin baby boys, Liam and Leo!

During Paris’s pregnancy, however, her CRP (C-reactive protein, which is a substance the liver produces in response to inflammation) was consistently raised above normal levels. Despite feeling quite worried, the medical team did no further investigation and assured Paris and Hamid that nothing could be done and that they’d have to wait until the babies were delivered to learn more.

They had their hands full with the twins, but couldn’t have been happier. Then just two months after giving birth, Paris felt very weak and was unwell. They knew something was wrong but didn’t quite know what it was. After several delays and failed attempts trying to get a GP referral, they ended up in the A&E on Christmas Eve of 2021.

Stage 4 Cancer
After a long night at the hospital, they found out the devastating news Paris had advanced Stage 4 Cancer of the bowel, and it had already spread to her liver as well.

This aggressive cancer grew to a large visible lump within just two weeks of that trip to the A&E. They were told by the medical team that the cancer was both incurable and inoperable, and to go home and take lots of family pictures knowing they may have just weeks to months before losing Paris.

Shortly after, Paris was readmitted back into the hospital on palliative care for about 20 days as she developed a high fever, as well as a tumour in her liver that had now grown to 19cm.

Chemotherapy began a month after the diagnosis (Feb 2022) and she received two forms of chemo every fortnight. After completing 15 cycles, she thankfully had shown a great response to the drugs and the tumour in the liver shrank to 11cm, which then made it operable. They were ecstatic.

Surgery after Surgery…
A surgeon then suggested removing Paris’s liver in hopes of giving her a second chance to live. In October 2022, more than 70% of her liver was successfully removed, followed by the removal of the primary tumour in the colon a month later in November. They finally felt confident they were on the right track.

Shortly after her recovery, however, further scans confirmed that the cancer continued to aggressively spread to more organs. They were devastated yet again. The decision was made to put Paris back on the same group of chemotherapies that she previously responded well to, but this is where their hopes really fell apart.

The NHS informed them that they will no longer provide the targeted treatment drug, Panitumumab, which had previously been incredibly effective, due to restrictions that will not allow a patient to receive the drug more than once in a fixed period of time.

Why GoFundme?
Their only hope now is to privately fund this treatment at roughly £2,000 per cycle, and estimate they’ll need a minimum of 10 cycles (but likely more). They’re looking at any and all options, including finding treatment outside of the UK if needed, in the hopes of saving their young family.

Paris, an NHS Nutritionist and Registered Dietician for people with Type 2 Diabetes, hasn’t worked since before the boys were born, and costs were adding up quickly.

Due to her health condition, she and Hamid are unable to look after the 18 months old babies on their own, and therefore have to pay daycare costs for twin babies as well. This in addition to the many other usual household bills are adding up.

Thank you for reading, and please consider donating to this incredibly worthy family; every pound raised will go directly to help them get the support and treatment they need to save Paris’s life and allow her children a better chance of more time with their Mummy.
