Please Donate For Paige

At the age of 5, Paige started having seizures in her head and leg. Paige continued to have seizures with no explainable cause. At the age of 9, doctors officially diagnosed her with Rasmussen Encephalitis which is a very rare autoimmune disorder associated with slowly worsening neurological problems and seizures in children.  Treatment of this disease with seizure medicines is disappointing and therefore required Paige to undergo a functional hemispherectomy at age 11. Despite the drastic nature of this procedure where half of the brain is disconnected resulting in partial paralysis, this surgery was her only option. Her parents had to make a life or death decision to attempt to stop the seizures and prevent further physical and mental impairment.

Paige had her surgery on July 9, 2019. She was courageous and strong going into surgery even though she knew it would take eight long hours. Paige continues to show bravery and strength after surgery. We are hopeful that she will recover with the help of her doctors and therapists at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

However, it has become increasingly clear to her parents that in order for Paige to come home and navigate on her own, adaptations will need to be made so that she can enter the house and get to her bedroom (upstairs) using only her right hand and balancing mainly on her right leg.  She will also need assistance in her bedroom and the bathroom that allows her to navigate based on her sole right side dependency.

We are asking for donations to help her parents make sure Paige is safe when navigating her home. She’s been through so much and was so brave going into this procedure.  We only want to make moving around possible for her going forward.
