Play Wards Project

The most striking difference between South African and UK paediatric wards is the ward environment.
In the UK, paediatric wards are bright and cheerful places stuffed with toys and activities.
In SA, paediatric wards are more bland whitewashed walled places with minimal toys.
Sadly this is simply due to there being limited resources to purchase luxuries such as toys/decorations.
The overall plan of the Play Wards projects will be to decorate the wards with permanent age appropriate toys. Initially this will be in the form of individual mobiles for each cot and multiple stimulation boards attached to the wall in the ward bays.
This will enhance the general ward environment and make the wards more welcoming for the children as well as promote them to play during their stay.
