The Plains Baptist Challenger was a monthly publication that E.L. Bynum was the editor and publisher of for over 50 years. Bro. Bynum viewed the publication of this work as one of his greatest achievements. In honor of his life’s work we are compiling the printed editions and converting them to a digital format that will be searchable and accessible on the web to be enjoyed and researched for years to come.
The Plains Baptist Challenger was started by E.L. Bynum in the 1950’s as a ministry of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. It continued to be published until 2008. It was sent to subscribers all over the world and was a great resource to Baptists. Bro. Bynum worked tirelessly every month writing articles, and using articles from other trusted sources to educate Baptists of the challenges they were facing and the truth of the Gospel message.
We believe this work, that spans almost 60 years, will be an invaluable resource for decades to come. Much of the publication was created at a time before the Internet was widely used. This effort will allow the work to be available to everyone around the world. In addition, because the articles were written to address contemporary issues at the time, it provides significant value as a resource for research into the Baptist movement. The Plains Baptist Challenger has been cited as works in other research, but was only available to subscribers. Making these documents available will provide further research to be supported.
We feel that this work will honor the memory of E.L. Bynum and the contribution that he made to the Baptist movement and the impact that he had to individuals all over the world.
