'Picture Change' Workshop in Uganda

Donation protected
First things first, I'm going to Africa! I am traveling to Jinja, Uganda, for a week-long workshop [September 24th-October 1st] with a super rad nonprofit called Picture Change who will also be partnering up with Sole Hope. Through using donated cameras, Picture Change teaches basic photography skills to Ugandan teenagers connected with Sole Hope to document their stories, family, and community through the camera lens. Picture Change focuses on community involvement, sustainability through local leadership, and empowerment through job creation. Picture Change [Join us in Jinja]

"What will you be doing there?" So glad you asked! I will be working alongside of students and fellow photographers creating stories, empowering, and connecting with one another through photography. As many of y'all know, photography has been a passion of mine for years now and I have recently started pursuing it professionally. Time after time incredible photo opportunites have been placed in front of me, and this one is no exception.

Humanitarian photography is specifically where I feel like my soul truly comes to life. This trip is once in a lifetime and will be pivotal for the trajectory of my photography career. It will allow me to step into the highly competitive Humanitarian realm of photography as well as learn the basics of documentary style videography.

But, I honestly can't do this without you. As many of y'all know, I recently am between jobs and do not have the excess funds to pay for this trip. I believe that the Lord will truly provide in HUGE ways. I prayed while applying for this trip that if the Lord wants me to go to Africa, He would make it happen; and He did! So, I know it's no coincidence that I am being offered this opportunity. Your support will make a lasting impact not only on my photography, but on the lives of the students in Jinja as well.

Through traveling to Uganda, I will get to know and work alongside of young photographers, teaching, encouraging, and learning with one another. Once learning the basics of Humanitarian photography and videography through storytelling I will be able to have a longer lasting impact on this world through my craft. I always want to be known for using my photography to help tell stories and give people the dignity that they deserve, and this is a great way to do so. I am beyond excited to share in this journey with you all.

To bring it home//
Jinja, Uganda, is 7,679 miles from Orlando, Florida. If 53 friends and family donated $76.79, I would be fully funded. Would you consider being one of the 53? Let's do this.
