About Us:

My name is Alex Demopoulos. My wife Aubrey and I started a nonprofit in the food industry called Philo's Kitchen. Our kitchen specializes in saving perishable foods such as vegetables, fruit and meats once they are donated to food banks and other groups. Because of the short lifespan on these foods, large amounts of good nutritious foods get thrown away.

Philo's Kitchen is now the solution for the perishable food dilemma. Our Mission is to take all the perishable foods that get donated and turn them into ready-to-eat, microwavable meals for families in need. And we offer this service for FREE!

Our process goes as such: Cook the donated food right away, then package and vacuum seal the food before freezing the newly packaged containers of food to extend its shelf-life.

Our partners in the industry include mostly food banks. When we met with our partners to explain our services, the feedback was an overwhelming need for someone to take on the problem that the food banks have with these perishable foods. Most of the donated perishable foods get thrown away because the food banks mainly operate out of warehouses and lack kitchens and refrigeration.

What Are We Raising Money For?

Our initial costs for operating are some kitchen items such as a stand-up freezer and refrigerator, food packing materials, food and spice items, “filler” foods to go with our perishable foods (i.e. rice, pastas, etc.) We will also use these funds on kitchen space rent and travel costs for pick-up and deliveries of our food.

After personally working in the lower income school districts before this venture, we learned how families are struggling to provide food for their families now more than ever. Covid increased the poverty line and forced more people into distressing situations. There is so much perishable, nutritious food that gets thrown out every day that should be going toward these individuals and families in need. By operating our kitchen in this way, we will be providing large quantities of nourishing meals to help this expanding group of people in need of food who are going hungry every day.
