Pete's Triple Bypass Medical Event

Pete is 48 years old. He has a good heart in that he helped his parents with volunteer works in the community when we were well and active. He is also a loyal employee having been with his previous employer for 15 years as the main point man to work with the veterans in providing services to enable them to move around in their homes. He built ramps for the handicapped. Unfortunately, as his health deteriorated, he was unable to complete his projects in a timely manner. He never disclosed his health issues with his former boss while working through weekends from customers who called for his assistance. He hardly ever took time off for vacation during the years and hardly was off work due to illness.
When we got him to the ER at the end of June 2017, the cardiologist said his 3 arteries were blocked 90% and he needed to have a coronary bypass surgery. After all the tests, he was scheduled for a triple bypass the last week of August, which during this time Hurricane Harvey came through Houston with flooding all over the city. This created a hardship for his former employee who was in demand to meet the veterans' need to complete several projects. Because Pete was hospitalized for at least 3 weeks prior to Harvey, his former employer let him go since his business has to go on to survive.
Now with mounting hospital and doctors' bills and no employment in the near future, we have no choice but to do a fundraiser to help meet these expenses, in addition, to help with the mortgage and utility bills until he can recover and find another job. It's estimated that he will not be healthy and ready for work for 3 months or longer. His insurance will not pay for most of the hospital and doctors charges and the bills are coming in droves. With both parents on a fixed income and with serious and life-threatening medical conditions, we have depended on our son to help care for us. Now that he needs our help, we cannot assist him. What will happen to all three of us if we are all too sick to make enough to keep our home?
As his mother, I have life-threatening health issues of my own as I am getting ready to get a kidney transplant due to being in the last stages of kidney failure. There will be added cost to getting the medications once I have the transplant which the hospital has given me an estimated number of at least $1000 a month.
Pete's father and I are both on social security and most of our income goes to pay for our insurance premiums, his insulins and medications and my kidney medications. We are lucky to have a couple of hundred dollars left to help with the foods for the family. We are thankful we still have a roof over our heads, but if Pete is unable to make the mortgage payments, we will be out on the street pretty soon.
I am trying to stay positive throughout all of this, but it hasn't been easy. I don't like to ask for help, but I am at the point I'm desperate, so I have to swallow my pride and seek help for my son and our family.
Even though we were not directly affected by Hurricane Harvey, we are certainly affected indirectly by the hurricane and the unexpected medical emergencies. Anything you can contribute in this difficult time will be greatly appreciated!
