Peter World Jamboree Fund

My name is Peter Lawson and I have been fortunate enough to be selected to be part of a contingent of Derbyshire scouts who will travel to America this summer to participate in the 2019 World Scout Jamboree.

Every four years the World Scout Jamboree brings together the world’s Scouts to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills. In 2019 the Jamboree will be hosted by Scouts from America, Canada and Mexico at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, in West Virginia, USA. The theme for the Jamboree is “Unlock a New World” and invites Scouts to unlock new adventures, new cultures, and new friendships.

When after 12 days the Jamboree comes to an end, I will travel with the rest of the Derbyshire contingent to Canada where I will stay for a few days with one of the Canadian Scout troops from the Jamboree. This is a further opportunity to make friends with scouts from another country and to hopefully forge links between our scout groups.

I am proud to be part of the scouting family and have progressed through Beavers, Cubs and now Scouts. I work hard at all aspects of being a Scout, whether it be preparing and cooking food on a campfire or representing my Scout group at the Remembrance Day parade. I have been awarded many scout badges, including my chief Scout award, the highest award achievable in the scout section. As the only member of the 107th Aston, Weston and Shardlow Scouts  attending the Jamboree, I am aware that I am an ambassador for my scout group and the wider community. I hope to make everyone proud.

Attending the World Scout Jamboree costs each participant £3500. I have been helping to meet some of this cost by selling Jamboree badges to my fellow scouts and  plan to raise funds through running a stall at a carboot sale. I have also challenged myself to complete the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge, a 25-mile route across the peaks of Pen-y-ghent (2277ft), Whernside (2415ft) and Ingleborough (2372ft) on the 8th June 2019. I would be grateful, therefore,  if you would consider sponsoring me to complete this challenge and in doing so help me raise funds for my Jamboree trip.
