Peter Schneider's Cancer Treatment

It was a typical Sunday afternoon in late April at the Schneider house. Peter was on his back porch with his grandson grilling his famous burgers, when he took a step up onto his bench to check out his roof. His foot slipped on the slick surface and he fell. He hit his head and sustained a serious concussion.
The fall and the concussion now are considered a beautiful blessing in disguise. The doctors at Presence Hospital in Champaign did all their regular tests to make sure that Peter was okay. However, his bloodwork led them to look for something else.
On June 22, they discovered a large tumor in his throat.
The following three weeks were hectic as Peter had a CT scan, biopsy and a consultation with the doctors at the University of Chicago.
The results found that the tumor was cancerous and Peter was diagnosed with Metastasis Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Nine weekly rounds of chemotherapy in Chicago ensued.
The chemotherapy was unable to completely destroy the tumor, so Peter and his wife Stephanie moved up to Chicago, for 25 rugged rounds of radiation.
In addition to the extra housing that they have had to pay for living in close proximity to the University of Chicago, the medical costs have skyrocketed.
The last bill asked for $96,000 and they wanted $83,000 out of pocket. Peter and Stephanie are working tirelessly with the insurance companies to try and see what they will cover, but the sum will be hefty nonetheless.
But there is good news on the horizon. The doctors are hopeful for a 100% cure. The timeframe is still a little unclear, but radiation will hopefully be over by the end of October.
If all goes well, Peter could be completely cleared by Thanksgiving.
