Pete's Parkinson's Surgery

In 2009, my second dad, Pete, was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease. Learning about this diagnosis has been a frightening time for all of us, especially for Pete. Since then, our family has done all that we can to learn about the disease, including treatment options and hosting our own fundraisers to raise money for The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Pete’s health and mobility have declined, his tremors have increased, and as a result, has even had to resort to going on disability. Unfortunately, no cure has been found over the years since his diagnosis. However, a surgical treatment called Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) has been used increasingly in recent years on Parkinson’s patients to help alleviate some of the symptoms. After many doctor appointments, research, and discussions, Pete has decided that Deep Brain Stimulation is a procedure that would best suit his circumstance. On November 20th, 2018, Pete will have his first of two surgeries for DBS. A great opportunity like this comes at a cost, however. Between medications, transportation, my mother’s time off of work to take care of him, and more, having DBS will definitely affect our family financially. This GoFundMe is to ask anyone who may be willing and able to donate, to please do so in the hopes that my parents have one less thing to worry about during Pete’s surgeries and recovery time. I would like to be able to give back to my parents during this time since they have given so much to me, even if it means I can’t do it single handedly.
