Pete Retuerto is a 21 year veteran of the Palatine Rural Fire Department. He is a father of 4 and married to his wife Amy. He is a great Dad, a really good friend and an exceptional Paramedic. Pete has been fighting severe G.I. issues for years now. He rarely had a day without pain or discomfort. His numerous bouts have eventually led to surgery, and have exhausted much of his sick time. Although thought to be routine, the surgery has been anything but. After the removal of 18 inches of his intestine he became septic. A second emergency surgery left him on a ventilator for a week and he is now equipped with a colostomy bag. The expected 8 week recovery time is now gone. Pete will have to undergo at least one additional surgery in the next 3 months. His return to work date and his future are very uncertain. Pete will exhaust all his sick time and time off long before he can return to work. His unforeseen medical costs have quickly escalated. We are doing everything we can as a Local. Pete and his family need your help.
