Pete & Freddy's Pages Aplenty Bookstore

Eight years ago, in October, we opened our small independent used bookstore, two sisters watching their dream unfold slowly, but surely. On opening day the shop was a temporary home to a little over 2,000 books and 3 colorful rooms to display them all in. Today, because of the generosity of our landlord and the love and support of our customers, many of whom have become friends, we offer over 30,000 books throughout 5 rooms. This has definitely been a labor of love for Freddy and me (Pete). The shop has grown, but so has our knowledge of all things books and our passion for our local community.

We endeavor to be a great source of books first and foremost, but also a place where those in our community feel welcomed and accepted. Books and words have such an impact on our lives and we hope our impact is as long lasting and cherished.

As we approach the winter shopping season we are aiming to be better prepared with inventory, the overall look of the shop (shelving, etc.), and the ease of the purchasing process. Our system is in need of an update. The current system is not as financially beneficial as it once was and a new system will require funds we do not have readily available to us at this time. Freddy and I aim to make financial decisions for the shop that are responsible (debt free) and will benefit our customers shopping experience. It is always our hope to encourage everyone to support their local commerce as much as possible. A big reason we are asking for friends, family, and customers to donate is for the annual Small Business Saturday event in November!

We hope you will donate to our campaign and tell others about us. Word of mouth remains one of the best ways bibliophiles hear about us.

Here’s how your support will help Pete & Freddy’s Pages Aplenty Bookstore

Short-term:

-The largest portion will go towards the new POS (Point-of-Sale) system.
This is how we process credit/debit card payments. It also has the potential to make tracking inventory easier and streamline the loyalty and gift card program.

-New Shelving.
There are few areas throughout the shop in desperate need of bigger and better shelving. Specifically in the realm of non-fiction; the more shelving the less chaos, the easier for our customers to find what they are looking for!

-Track Lighting.
The Gallery wall is lacking the necessary lighting to get this project off the ground and running. Once lighting is in place we can begin planning which local artist will be featured. Who doesn’t want to see local art while browsing a bookstore?

Long-term:

-Website.
A website has been on our radar for some time now. It takes a lot of time and money to get a great site up. We want to take the next steps to setting up this project.

-Buying Trip.
In the past, Freddy and I would travel at least once a year out of state for book buying. Due to various circumstances this has not happened for many years. We would really like to use a portion of the money and head out on a buying spree for our customers. This means gas money, hotel money, and of course book money!

GOAL REACHED, now what?

We want to celebrate when the day arrives that our hoped for goal is met. When it happens you can expect to be invited to a celebration with books, food, giveaways, and more!!!

Raised more than needed?!?

If we meet our goal AND exceed it we do have a few more additions/projects to bring to the shop.

-Printer and ink for the printer.

-Equipment to help create and bring in more locally made items.

-Overflow shelving for our back office. This is where the duplicates live.

-New marketing items. Bags, Mugs, and more!

-More inventory!
Initially the shop opened with previously owned books; today brand new books make up a small portion of our offered inventory. We strive to add more books as much as possible that are recent publications. However, these titles cost more. We would love to make more available!

We thank you ahead of time for taking the time to read over how we hope to use the funds we recieve on GoFundMe. Our community is considered an extension of our family and we are excited about bringing more to the shop for you! Please share and stay tuned as this project unfolds.
