missions to peru

hello visitors, friends, and distinguished guests,

I am very excited and a tad bit nervous to be leading a team of 13 vibrant, young adults from Hebron Church to Lima, Peru. Together, we will be immersing ourselves in the culture and meeting new people while sharing what we know and love most - the life changing story of Jesus Christ.  From June 30 - July 12, we will be visiting remote villages on the outskirts of Peru to hold a daily program for neighborhood children involving games, skits, puppet shows, and singing.  Our goal is simply to experience what God is already doing in Peru with open minds and hearts and to be involved in anyway we can in sharing the Gospel.  I don't know about these other 13 people, but I'm also looking forward to seeing a llama spit (preferably not at me).

We will also be working with a ministry called "AMED".  This is a valuable ministry center in South America because it shares free childrens resources to churches: Sunday school material, creative media, and sing alongs for kids are just a few things that they offer.  We will be entering into their studio and recording a few of our skits and songs there in the hopes that it can be a resource to any childrens ministry in the area.  I've always wanted to be a youtube star.  Here's my chance.

I've been asked to preach at one of the local churches and will be speaking daily to the the gathering children groups as well.  I am so excited for this opportunity and hope you share in it with me. If any of this remotely interests you, I want to ask you for a favor.

Will you consider supporting me?  In addition to plane tickets, bus passes, housing, and food, our group will also be taking with us some school supplies and craft material for the kids.  If you have been putting your money aside to give generously for a good cause, please consider supporting this trip.  This trip will not be possible without your kindness and generosity.  I humbly ask for your support.

As important as the finances are, I want to really emphasize my need for prayer support.  I will most likely battle fatigue, be subject to travelers sickness, and may have little issues here and there with leading a team of 13 young adults.  Sometimes, my wife calls me her son.  So as someone who sometimes needs to be taken care of myself, I will have a lot of burdens and responsibilties caring for 13 people.  Haewon is also pregnant and I will be leaving her alone at home for a couple weeks. Would you join with me in prayer that God would be in the lead with Haewon at home and with our team in Peru.

love,
John Kim

P.S.
Did you know that I've been a pastor for over 10 years already? Who in the world would have ever thought that I would last this long in ministry?  For those of you who have known me since my "pre-pastor" days, I'm sure you have at least once joined with me in thinking, "something may be wrong with the world if John Kim can be a pastor".

To this day, I still wonder what God was thinking, but I've learned not to question the fact that he does indeed do something.  I'm definitely not the same John I used to be, nor do I expect that I will be the same John 10 years from now.  I've come to believe in the power of grace and the transformative nature of God's active dealing in my life.  In some poetic way, God has been using that which was broken to minister grace to the broken.  He's refined my voice with hope and courage that I may minister to those who remain lost and voiceless.  God is literally changing me each day.

If I haven't seen you in awhile, I pray we may visit soon that you may bear witness to grace at work.
