Perú un sólo Corazón | Covid-19 Relief
(Peru, just one heart)
The pandemic has brought serious impacts and losses all over the world changing forever how each of us relates to and navigates the world, especially hitting tremendously to the most disadvantaged in third world countries like Peru.
We are a group of Peruvians living in the United States based in Seattle, WA who want to help our Peruvian brothers and sisters suffering most from the impacts of the Covid-19 health crisis and national economic catastrophe in Peru. This pandemic has pushed over 5 million Peruvians into extreme poverty, misery and abandonment. As of June 1st, 2021, Peru has lost over 180,000 people to Covid-19 and currently possibly losing close to 20,000 people per month. This makes Peru the country with the worst death rate per capita, according to Johns Hopkins University data. They are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters that have left us before their time; persons with talent, knowledge and compassion that have left a huge void in our hearts.
We have developed connections with Caritas International to coordinate distribution channels with community groups in Peru such as "San Jose Obrador," a parish in Lima (Barranco neighborhood), that with less than $1 per person is providing 2,100 hot meals a week to families in need; working tirelessly to assist with food and medical supplies. Unfortunately, they, as well as other food providers, are running very low. Let's help them to save as many people as possible from hunger and disease.
Our goal is to fill up two shipping containers departing from Seattle by mid-July 2021 loaded with food and medical supplies, jackets and covers for the upcoming winter season. Our hope is to unite in one heart with our brothers and sisters in Peru so they know that they are not alone and that they are valuable to all of us.
Remember, just one dollar can make a difference in the lives of unfortunate Covid-19 victims.
