This campaign means quite a bit to me as a musician. In 2018, I took 2 separate trips to four countries and experienced a beautiful opportunity to reconnect with music through other cultures. From exploring the Tango through the eyes of a Venezuelan taking the journey of this type to surprisingly Finland; relaxing to Jazz music in the heart of SoHo London, and appreciating the love of Scottish music from a multitude of locations to experiencing music from Jamaican's - my heritage. Finally, observing a Jamaican producer sculpt recorded sounds into magic.
These were some of the profound experiences I was exposed to. I wondered if I was struggling to reconnect and illuminate my musical soul could this be a platform I can share with other adult musicians since platforms are limited? Wouldn't it be fantastic to create lasting connections with musicians around the world? The travel opportunities created, were a game changer for me and I wanted to share this view.
Seven Pillars Corporation was created to connect musicians. To explore the beauty of music through cross-cultural collaboration, illuminating the musician's soul.
The first stop is Jamaica. I want to raise awareness of musicians in Jamaica, learn their techniques, drive. Not just the beloved reggae but highlighting music that the world does not always see. Highlight instrumental music, rhythms, theory, and more.
A colleague and myself will begin this journey at the end of August, visiting places around the island and working with musicians in Kingston, Jamaica at the Edna Manley College of Music. We will perform selected music from composers around the world, premiere a piece very well known in the classical world infused with Venezuelan Joropo rhythms, and give a masterclass providing students an opportunity to work with a highly trained professor, in an environment that provides access to highly accredited music schools in the States and a chance to collaborate with other musicians ready to meet them.
