Peregrinaje por Puentes de Amor (English bellow)

Mi nombre es Carlos Lazo. Vivo en la ciudad de Seattle, en los Estados Unidos. Soy maestro de secundaria. Soy el fundador del proyecto Puentes de Amor. Este domingo 27 de junio de 2021, un grupo de seis jóvenes cubanoamericanos y yo, iniciamos un peregrinaje que nos llevará desde Miami hasta Washington DC. Caminaremos 1300 millas (2000 km). A la llegada a la Casa Blanca, entregaremos al presidente Biden la petición para que cese la política cruel que viola los derechos humanos del pueblo cubano. Esta política, implementada hace décadas, es más inhumana aún pues se ha mantenido incluso en medio de una pandemia. Cuando los pueblos del mundo necesitan amor y solidaridad, las sanciones a Cuba, flagelan los derechos humanos de todos los cubanos.

Durante las semanas que dure nuestro peregrinar, visitaremos comunidades, hablaremos con ciudadanos de a pie, visitaremos iglesias, gobiernos municipales, oficinas de congresistas y contactaremos medios noticiosos. Nuestros pasos comenzaron por Florida y nos llevaran a Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, terminando en Washington DC. A lo largo de nuestro recorrido, abogaremos por la creación de Puentes de Amor entre los pueblos de Cuba y los Estados Unidos. Pediremos el fin de las sanciones que pesan sobre el pueblo cubano. Explicaremos a los estadounidenses acerca de la crueldad de la guerra económica que se lleva a cabo contra el pueblo de Cuba. Llevaremos a la Casa Blanca el sentir de cientos, de miles, de millones de personas de buena voluntad de todo el mundo. Al llegar a Washington DC le pediremos al presidente Biden que cumpla sus promesas electorales y levante las sanciones económicas que asfixian al pueblo de cubano.

Hermanas y hermanos: Ayúdenos a alcanzar nuestra meta. Necesitamos el apoyo de las personas de buena voluntad que abogan por la construcción de Puentes de Amor entre los pueblos de Cuba y los Estados Unidos. No todos podrán caminar en este largo peregrinar con nosotros. Pero todos pueden ser parte de nuestro esfuerzo donando y compartiendo el mensaje. Los fondos recaudados aquí serán utilizados para los gastos básicos de nuestra travesía como comprar combustible para el vehículo que nos acompañará, hacer reparaciones y comprar alimentos. Vamos a una fiesta de amor. Vamos a hacer oír nuestras voces y las de millones de personas en Estados Unidos y en el mundo. My name is Carlos Lazo. I live in the city of Seattle, in the United States. I am a high school teacher. I am the founder of the Puentes de Amor (Bridges of Love) project. This Sunday, June 27, 2021, a group of six young Cuban-Americans and I began a pilgrimage that will take us from Miami to Washington DC. We will walk 1300 miles. Upon arrival at the White House, we will deliver to President Biden the petition to stop the cruel policy that violates the human rights of the Cuban people. This policy, implemented decades ago, is even more inhumane as it has been maintained even in the midst of a pandemic. When the peoples of the world need love and solidarity, the sanctions against Cuba scourge the human rights of all Cubans.

During the weeks that our pilgrimage lasts, we will visit communities, speak with individual citizens, visit churches, municipal governments, congressional offices and contact the news media. Our steps began in Florida and will take us to Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, ending in Washington DC. Throughout our journey, we will advocate for the creation of Bridges of Love (Puentes de Amor) between the people of Cuba and the United States. We will ask for the end of the sanctions that weigh on the Cuban people. We will explain to the Americans about the cruelty of the economic war that is being waged against the Cuban people. We will bring to the White House the feelings of hundreds, thousands, millions of people of good will from around the world. Upon arriving in Washington DC, we will ask President Biden to fulfill his electoral promises and lift the economic sanctions that suffocate the Cuban people.

Sisters and brothers: Help us reach our goal. We need the support of people of good will who advocate for the construction of Bridges of Love between the people of Cuba and the United States. Not everyone will be able to walk on this long pilgrimage with us. But everyone can be part of our effort by donating and sharing the message. The funds raised here will be used for the basic expenses of our journey such as buying fuel for the vehicle that will accompany us, making repairs and buying food. We are going to a love party. We will make our voices heard and those of millions of people in the United States and around the world.
