This album will be dedicated to my beautiful mother, Penni Rae Ilizaliturri. I lost her to a sudden tragic diagnosis of ALS and Dementia in 2016. She passed early morning on Mother’s Day of last year, and it was the most devastating time of my life. This year, I felt it on my heart to create a tribute video for her which covers Ed Sheeran’s song, “Supermarket Flowers”(link to tribute below). My hope was that people who have lost the person who played the role of being their mom would be encouraged. Encouraged to reflect on the gift those loved ones are and were and that this reminder would inspire all of us to live lives of legacy.
The response to this tribute was completely unexpected. In just a few weeks, the tribute received nearly 500 shares, 25k views, and hundreds of comments. My inbox was flooded with over 100 messages from people from all over the U.S. and even from outside the country; people expressing how touched they were by the video and some even went on to share about their personal losses. It truly was powerful to see. The purpose of the video wasn’t for attention, I had no idea people would respond in this way. It was and is so beautiful to see my mom’s life bring so much light to this world and love to those who are hurting in their grief.
This tribute led to a great desire of mine to record a full length album and dedicate it to her, in hopes that this encouragement would continue and that we could be more open about our grief and struggles in life. It would mean so much to receive your support via: sharing, prayer, comments, messages, or financially. Thank you so much!
