Pennies for Pingala

Donation protected
This COVID-19 thing is taking a toll on all of us – worldwide, this will take quite some time to recover from. It’s still unfathomable. But across all industries, the food, beverage and live entertainment industries are amongst the hardest hit. Please support these businesses in the future as you have in the past, and perhaps even more so now than the aforementioned times.

The crisis has caused a government mandated closure of all restaurant dining rooms, and has left 90% of our beloved staff out of work for the next 2-3 weeks, at best. They have ALL (sniffles) expressed their intentions to come back to work when this whole thing clears. From the atmosphere, service, food, and drinks, these are the people that make this place what it is. I don’t want to lose them – more simply: I can’t.

My name is Trevor Sullivan, and I never thought after opening Pingala Cafe six years ago, I would be so blessed to be working with the people there now. It is both my conviction and obligation to do whatever I possibly can to help staff cover their expenses while there is no work, and maintain a strong footing at Pingala, so we all have jobs to come back to. Yes, we are open for take-out and delivery (for now, we’ll see), but the sales are only enough to support a very small staff at this time. Unemployment Insurance is jammed up, and although we are grateful, it will cover less than half of their normal paychecks. This is the case for many, many businesses in the F&B industry.

It takes A LOT and costs EVEN MORE to run and keep a restaurant open...

It has literally almost taken the life out of me (and many others) to build Pingala into what it has become, and I’ll be damned if it goes down like this – a global pandemic stemming from animal exploitation.
Everything we do is in the name of love and service; hospitality is the business of taking care of people, building community, and providing nourishment on so many levels. It pains us to be in this position, with an empty dining room, and the thought of “should we be open tomorrow? Is it viable?” Please help us stay open, stay strong, and be ready to go when the time comes.

I realize that everyone is going through this mess, and I hope not to offend any person by this ask, but if you are able to donate, in any amount, your contributions are gratefully accepted and will be distributed as follows:

STAFF: To these amazing people in an effort to subsidize their "normal paycheck" and help them with their fixed monthly expenses. Funds will be distributed on a bi-weekly basis.

PINGALA: So we can stay up and running, not be balls-deep in debt, and all have jobs when this is over. This will help cover overhead, food costs, rent, utilities, etc. We will identify top priority expenses and use funds accordingly to help cover those costs, but not until after staff donations have been allocated to subsidize their income.

CHARITY: 10% of contributions will go back into a COVID-19 Go Fund Me campaign in need - Two birds with one stone kind of thing.

Thank you for your continued support. This sucks. You rule.

Blessings and good health onto you, your family, and all of us.

 With deepest love and gratitude,

Trevor Sullivan
