PENdulum Global is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers vulnerable adolescents through digital mentorship and entrepreneurial service. With the HIV/AIDS campaign, we currently focus on adolescents made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS in Swaziland through mentor-driven empowerment and adolescent-directed service projects. Our major collaborating partner for the mentorship program is Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation Swaziland (BCMCF-SD).
In 2017, our 10 adolescents with HIV in Swaziland set out to launch The Garden Project to learn sustainable farming and agriculture. The core goal of the garden construction and maintenance project is to engage these 10 adolescents in an entrepreneurial service project to capstone their mentorship experience and provide a real-life learning and leadership experience. The adolescents grow fresh produce for themselves and their families and distribute surplus to the most marginalized patients at our partnering clinic in Mbabane.
Thus far the experience has engaged the adolescents to collaboratively learn, develop a higher-level of creative thinking, problem-solving skills, time-management skills, leadership and team building skills, increase self-confidence/esteem, prepare for real-life social and potential employment situations, and envision their own social ventures.
Currently, we are fundraising for 4 distinct needs:
(1) Funding to provide nutritional breakfast for the 10 adolescents for 6 months (cost: $700)
(2) Funding to provide nutritional lunch for the 10 adolescents for 6 months (cost: $700)
(3) An irrigation system at the garden (cost: $600)
(4) Unrestricted funds
