In May 2016, Peggy was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer and underwent 30 straight days of radiation and 4 cycles of chemo before her body could no longer take the harsh drugs that chemo injected. Her chemo results looked promising, until she went back for another PET scan earlier this year.
On March 1st, we found out her cancer has progressed to stage 4. At this stage the cancer is not curable, but Opdivo immunotherapy treatment will help improve her quality of life and extend the amount of time Peggy has with us!
Peggy goes to the doctor every other week to receive the Opdivo immunotherapy treatment, which is $1,900 out of pocket each time. Additionally, she has CAT/PET scans every few months that monitor the progress and development of the tumors, which costs over $3,000 each visit.
Peggy and her Piazza Deli have been a staple in the Defiance area for 10+ years! No matter what day it is, Peggy is there to feed our bellies and hearts with those tasty strombolis, pizzas, her own chicken salad recipe, gooey butter cake baked daily, and so on. Everyone has a favorite at Piazza Deli! And Peggy feeds us with a smile on her face and puts care into every meal she makes.
Peggy is not the type to ask for help. So we are asking for her. We are asking the community to come together and help Peggy with the cost of this ongoing treatment and constant medical costs so she can continue to feel her best. She takes care of us, and now we are asking the community to come together to help take care of her!
