Peanut Buttercup IVDD Surgery

Peanut Buttercup is one of three doxie fur-babies we have. She was born on Christmas Day 2008 and became a part of our life after we lost my beloved miniature pincher Bailey. We didn’t realize how much we needed her until the day we met and it was love at first sight.
On Wednesday December 13, 2017 our whole world changed as upon arriving home from work and gym it was clear something was very wrong with Peanut. She normally is extremely energetic and happy when we get home but this time she didn’t run to greet us at the door and quickly noticed that she wasn’t walking properly or able to stand up. Having volunteered with Dachshund Rescue and seeing many doxies suffer from IVDD we knew that time was of the essence.
First thing Thursday morning we took her to our vet Dr. Roberts at Pet Calls Animal Hospital whom we trust as he’s been taking care of many of our fur-babies over the years. He was quick to see us and he agreed that Peanut was definitely going down due to IVDD. He called a neurosurgeon he trusts and sent us there immediately for an MRI to determine the extent of the damage and route for treatment.
The Dr called us within a half hour after doing the MRI and she told us that she needed to get Peanut into emergency surgery immediately as she had a herniated disc in her middle back that was compressing her entire spine and quickly getting worse. By the time she was done with the MRI Peanut had already gone from bad to worse and the fear was she would be paralyzed for life if we didn’t act fast so we had to make the hardest decision of our life for her quickly which we did and into emergency surgery she went. Needless to say the cost of the surgery is not an expense we had planned for but it was a must considering she's still young and healthy otherwise.

 The nurses and hospital staff made sure I had a blanket since I get cold.

She's finally home and now the road to recovery begins. Peanut has about half dozen meds she needs to be on right now. We need to do physical therapy on her 3 times a day to help keep her hind legs and muscles from atrophy. Peanut will also be having laser therapy to help with the healing and recovery process. She has to be separated from her sisters until she can walk and move around on her own, and she's not allowed much activity right now to limit any injury to her spine so we have to carry her everywhere for now.
Peanut Buttercup would like to thank everyone that sent prayers and checked up on her daily, and to thank you for all the support you have provided her mommy, daddy and sisters. She will provide updates on her recovery as often as possible.
