PLEASE HELP WITH UNEXPECTED DIAGNOSIS - Funds Desperately Needed

Please help us with this handsome boy’s

desperately needed veterinary care.  His bills far exceed his Foster/Newly Adoptive Mom’s means
to pay for them. Peachy is a sweet self-mutilating Moluccan cockatoo who is turning 30 years old
this month. His history is unknown for the most
part. He is in desperate need of care.  We do know
that his wings were Pinioned - which is a rather
barbaric procedure where they remove a portion
of the bird’s wings at the tip.  It is comparable to
cutting off a person’s fingers at the knuckle. They
performed this procedure on birds of this
generation.  It is unknown whether an anesthetic 
was used, or what the exact protocol was back
then - approximately 28 years ago.  People had this done so their birds could not fly away.  It is a cruel
and unnecessary procedure which affects balance,
and causes the bird pain and arthritis later in life.
This would be enough to cause any bird to never
trust a human again! They are extremely
intelligent and sensitive, and because they
remember everything, they are easily
traumatized for life and become pluckers and the more dangerous self-mutilators.
Needless  to say, Peachy has serious separation
anxiety and trust issues. He has difficulty
balancing and he will never be able to extend his
wings out fully, nor will he ever be able to fly.  He
has gotten startled, leapt from the top of his cage,
and landed to the floor with a crashing “thud “ -
 breaking off the tip of his beak.

 Peachy was adopted from The Kingston Rhode
Island Pound ( not a place for birds ) 2 years ago
by a family with children. (We adopted him, but
sadly, having young kids in our household continued to stress him out). He has since been fostered by a lady with a heart of gold
(my dear friend Brandi Dennis) who has fallen in
love with him and decided to keep him.
 Brandi lost an umbrella cockatoo 8 years ago she was a self-mutilator.  Her girl Hannah had ripped
her air sac open during the middle of the night, and Brandi found her dead on the bottom of the cage
the next morning.  Brandi also lost her heart bird
Abby, an umbrella cockatoo last year on 12/31/19 to a complete vent prolapse (including her organs).  
Brandi is very passionate about cockatoos and
despite her heartbreak has offered and dedicated herself to helping Peachy.  Please help us get
Peachy the vet care he needs so he can heal, and
Brandi doesn’t have to go through another horrific loss.

Peachy plucked and self-mutilated prior to his
arrival to the pound, and continued to do so 
During his 87 day stay after his original owner
relinquished him.   When he was finally adopted,
he did well with the family, but
continued his nervous habit of plucking and
self-mutilating. Peachy is very afraid of wooden
dowels, towels, spray bottles, loud noises, bugs,
and any object he is unsure of. He is
super-sensitive and gets stressed out easily.
Peachy does not bathe, and when nervous or
stressed, he gouges at a hole in his chest until it
bleeds. This hole in his chest has turned into a
rather large wound that is growing in size and
has become infected. The veterinarian will need
to surgically close up Peachy’s chest wound, and he
will require numerous follow-up visits. He is now
currently taking a three week course of Baytril
antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medication
meloxicam from the vet.  Brandi also has to buy an expensive red light to treat his wound at home. We are asking for funding and donations please.
$583 is the total from Tuesday’s Vet visit, Dec. 1
and there is going to be surgery, more medications, a therapy light, and numerous follow-up visits yet
to come. Please we need help so this sweet boy can stop tearing himself apart and have a chance to live a happy, pain free life.  All donations will go
towards Peachy’s care.  We appreciate anything
