Peaches is a luxury that costs over $3000

This is Peaches, my pit bull who has recently had quite the experience.

She has survived so much in her 6 months of life. We have had her since she was 6 hour old, she has survived macroglossia (an enlarged tongue making her choke and aspirate).  She is also what they call a "true runt" being 20% of the size of her known litter mates. Peaches has congenital dwarfism, and that has caused some issues with her brain, and swelling around her skull.

We've had Peaches since she was six hours old due to an animal cruelty case, and I bottle-fed her every 3 hours until she was old enough to start weening. She slept in my bed since her first night alive all the way into the present, first in a basket, then sprawled out like she owned the thing. The reason we got her so young was because she was fed to a snake the moment she was born, and we suspect that the time she spent not only being eaten by the snake, but not breathing after she was regurgitated, is a big contributor to her...quirks.

We took her to two vets, the first one resulted in 5 hours in a waiting room, and a $501 vet bill for her x-rays. They then told us they didn't know what it was, and to come back later.

The second visit ended with much the same, and another $100 for them to tell us they were sending us to A&M.

Once at A&M, Peaches spent two days overnight there until they could get her MRI done. After that, they found a few interesting things about Peaches... First off, her brain is asymmetrical with one side having far less wrinkles than a normal brain should. This explains the petite mal seizures she's had since she was a few weeks old.

Her lump is a stone contusion caused by her smooth brain. It causes her to not be able to know she's going to bump her head, or even understanding WHY she bumps her head.

In the mean time, however, I've been pinned with a $3000+ bill for her various vet visits. A&M set up a payment plan with me for about $200 every month starting in September, and I'm already starting to save up to make sure I always have that $200 for her.

But regardless of the payment plan, over three thousand dollars is a lot of money, especially for someone who has just turned 18 and works part-time for $9 an hour.

I'm trying my best to save every penny to keep up with the bills and pay off my debt, but the sooner I can get it paid off the sooner I can finish getting my diploma, get a car, and just in general get in a better spot to deal with the future and whatever Peaches inevitably throws at me.

I'm also offering art commissions on Tumblr @mutt-art
