Warriors Helping Warriors

Tax deductible
Hello Folks,

I hope this message finds you well. On March 22nd, John Jones put on an event at Riverdale’s new Fieldhouse (the shell is up, nothing built out inside). The purpose of the event was to:

1.) Announce that the Field House will be named after past Principal Hulan Watson

2.) Allow a tour of current football facilities (it’s the same weight room and locker room we had over 20 years ago, by far the worst facilities in the city)

3.) Outline the overall project goal (new weight room, locker room, showers, coaches offices) and to communicate the financial status of the project

4.) Ask for a donation or commitment pledge from those in attendance to help with the goal

The order of the program was pretty cool. John was the MC and kept everyone laughing all night. Current coach Will Kreisky then spoke about the current Warriors and current facility challenges. Two recent players (2017 Mr. Football, running back Savion Davis & Marquell (Gene) Odom) each spoke about their Riverdale experience and how the football team has positively impacted their lives. Coach Rankin (GOAT) spoke about how he came to Riverdale and gave some interesting and insightful information about key things that happened during his tenure. Mr. Watson spoke about the initial interview to hire Coach Rankin and some of the decisions that were made early on to commit to winning after being dominated in those years by Oakland. It was great to see and hear from both Coach and Mr. Watson.

After that came the real order of business. What needs to happen to finish the new Field House that will be a new weight room and locker room, new showers, and new coaches offices. There is currently a $150,000 note on the current structure and it will take another 250k to complete the project. So, the goal is a $400,000 raise, of which 109k was raised or committed prior to last night. The levels of the ask last night were 10k or 5k spread out over 4 years..

There are several that committed to the giving at these levels. I actually haven’t committed to what I will give yet but one thing is certain, I WILL GIVE SOMETHING! I personally feel that I’ve been tremendously blessed by going to Riverdale. Not only the positive football experience our classes had, but everything else that life brought for me to experience and learn throughout those years. We all shared our lives together at Riverdale. We didn’t go to Ensworth or the Brentwood Academy’s of the world but I believe we received great access to education in a positive atmosphere. Here’s what I would like to do: Let’s use this giving campaign amongst ourselves and gift it to Riverdale as a group. I used 'GO FUND ME' because it was the easiest to establish and easy for everyone to give to. SHARE, SHARE, SHARE (not publically on Facebook but maybe through inbox or email). There’s no judgement, no level too small, just giving what we can.  Please share this email to former players, cheerleaders, students, anyone who may have a heart to help this project. We will no doubt make a great donation and help get this thing done.

Blessings,

Corey
