Hector, a devoted husband and loving father, was recently diagnosed with a germ cell tumor.  On  December 21st Hector was scheduled for the removal of the tumor located just above his left lung. The surgery was a 3 hr noninvasive surgery that was going to be performed laparoscopically assisted robotically through 3 small incisions under his left armpit. With a recovery time of a day. An hour and a half into the surgery, the surgeons noticed the tumor was sitting on his main pulmonary artery that supplies oxygen to the left side of his heart so it was decided to do away with the robot and perform the surgery manually, by cracking open his sternum and opening up his chest.  A piece of his left lung and his left diaphragm nerve had to be taken out along with the tumor. The surgery was now a 6 hr major surgery requiring Hector to be admitted into ICU, sedated, and intubated on a breathing tube for 24 hours. The scheduled surgery was going to cost $12,000. The new surgery will be doubled if not tripled. Hector will be out of work for at least 6-8 weeks leaving myself to support our family of 8.
