Friends and Family,
Just over four (4) weeks ago our world came to a screeching halt, my husband Kyle called me at work in tears, trying to make sense of the phone call he had just had with his sister. You see our beautiful niece at the age of 13 had been diagnosed with leukemia and was undergoing a blood transfusion at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. This is one of those unimagineable phone calls that leaves you raw, numb and scared. I cannot even begin to imagine how Kyle’s sister Kendall and our nieces dad Jamie felt receiving this news that their perfect, brilliant, funny, beautiful daughter has cancer!
The diagnosis seemed sureal, unbelievable, unimagineable - how could this be happening to such an amazing young lady? What is the the next month, year, 2 years going to look like while she battles (and conquers) cancer? Lots of questions and not a lot of answers.
Over the next few days Payton would undergo numerous procedures to determine the kind of Leukemia, the treatment plan and preparing her body for chemo. Every step of the way Payton engages with the doctors, accepts the treatment plans and faces this disease head on and without fear. She rises to every battle and fights even when she is exhausted, sad, scared, sick and angry.
Through this super difficult time, Payton's family has been by her side supporting her, loving her and fighting this ugly disease along side her. Payton's family lives in Yorkton and Canora, SK but all of Payton's treatments have been in Saskatoon, so Payton's family has had to put their lives on hold, which they do willingly. Payton and her mom have been in Saskatoon since diagnosis and her dad travels back and forth as his schedule allows. One can imagine there are all kinds of financial pressures put on your family when you are unable to work while a child is battling for their life. I have created this Go Fund Me page to help Payton's family with the expenses of travelling back and forth to Saskatoon, to cover their household expenses so that they can be by her side without the worry of how they will keep a roof over their head and to help take off the financial pressure/stress of everyday life, so that they can just focus on the battle that faces their family as Payton Conquers Cancer!
