Assistance Paying Off The Totaled Van

Hey everyone.

First I’d like to start off with, I know my financial misfortunes are nobodies responsibility but my own. However- at this point there’s been multiple people who’ve asked if I’ve considered setting one of these up. So here goes.

On Friday, June 20th, my kiddos and I were in a serious car accident. I was going 80mph on the interstate. I looked at my GPS when it spoke, only for it to be telling me that traffic was stopped ahead. When I looked up, I was close enough to the stopped traffic- I was unable to safely stop in time. I am thankful that my babies are okay more than anything else. Elyza only has scratches from the car seat straps on her shoulders. Kingsleys face got pretty bruised up- but nothing fractured/broken. And miss Madilynn hobbled away with a fractured hip that will heal on its own. She’s already feeling much better a week later. I completely broke my patella (knee cap) in half. I underwent immediate surgery for wires and screws. I will be in a straight brace for 4-6 weeks. I’m unable to bend my knee that entire time. I’m able to get up and walk with the assistance of a walker. I will be out of work for at least another week, and even when I go back to work- it’s not going to be full time immediately.

Although everyone is okay, and I’m immensely grateful- my van has obviously been totaled out. I was still making payments on it. I owed almost $7.9 on it. I just found out insurance is paying out $2,200 for my van. That means I still owe $5.7k. Normally that would be added on as negative equity on the back end of the loan of a new vehicle. HOWEVER- Wisconsin just passed a new law that no negative equity can be added on to a new loan without collateral. And since my vehicle has been totaled out and the title is now at the junk yard- I don’t have any collateral to attach to that $5.7k, and therefore cannot be added on to the back end of a new (used vehicle) loan. I’m obviously unable to get into a vehicle at this moment, but in a month or so I will be able to drive again. And if I’m going to get to work, I will need a vehicle. I’m looking for help with maybe paying off this $5.7k so I can get back into a vehicle when I’m able. I’m setting the goal at $6k because that $5.7k will still gain interest daily as any normal vehicle loan.
